WALL PAINT FOR KIDS’ SPACES

Gone are the days of girls’ rooms being painted pink and boys’ rooms being blue, and we couldn’t be happier about this! These days the color possibilities for creating a fun and inspiring space for your child to enjoy are nearly endless.

You want your child’s playroom and bedroom to be a reflection of who they are, but also be flexible enough to grow and adapt as they develop. Designing a space that meets those needs can feel challenging though, which is why we’ve rounded up our favorite painting ideas for creating a child friendly space in your home.

Neutral Walls That Will Grow With Them

If the wild colors your child really wants are a little too intense for your taste, consider painting their walls in a neutral color like gray, white, or light beige. Incorporating your child’s brightly colored artwork and giving them a choice of bedding or other decor will give them the color they crave while keeping the space calm enough for you.

Favorite Color Accent Wall

Of course, if you’re comfortable letting your child pick a color or two for their walls, an accent wall is the perfect compromise. One wall in purple or neon green is much more palatable and easier to change down the road than an entire room.

Painted Stripes

Using painters tape to create stripes is one of the easiest ways to incorporate a fun pattern into your child’s space. If your child has a favorite color consider creating tone on tone stripes on one or all of the walls. Or work together to pick two colors that look great together. Complementary or analogous paint colors are a great way to guarantee a perfect color pairing.

Finding Your Finish

Regardless of how you feel about glossy paint finishes, they are the best interior paint finishes for kid-friendly spaces. You want something that will hold up to crayons, fingerprints, and whatever else your child might throw at them . Finishes such as satin or semi-gloss from a high-quality paint brand (such as Behr paint or Sherwin Williams paints) will be washable, durable and last for years to come.

Low VOC’s

When it comes to chemicals in your home you always want to make eco-friendly choices but especially so for your child’s room. Look for a brand with low VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) to ensure the air that they’re breathing during playtime is pure and healthy.
