THE BEST PAINT COLORS TO INCREASE YOUR HOME'S VALUE

If you're putting your home on the market, you're probably considering painting the interior or exterior of the home. This is typically a good idea because it freshens up the home and allows it to show as more desirable. But did you know that the colors you choose can affect the sale price of your home? Read on to find out the paint colors that are more likely to increase your home's value, according to a Zillow analysis of more than 32,000 photos from sold homes around the country in 2017.

Blue

Blue, blue, and more blue. Zillow's analysis found that homes painted in light blues or pale blue/gray sell for over $5,000 more than expected. That's a big deal! But where should the blue go?

Blue kitchens, most often in soft gray-blue, sold for a higher price than other kitchens. You don't have to think back too far to remember that yellow used to be the color of choice for kitchens. Staying on top of color trends when selling your house is critical.

Blue bathrooms helped out on the sale price of homes as well. The key in this room, however, is light. Light blue to soft periwinkle blue bathrooms commanded an additional $5,440 more than expected.

Blue bedrooms even helped out in the sale price of homes in Zillow's analysis. Light cerulean to cadet blue bedroom walls helped homes sell for almost $2,000 more than expected.

Dining rooms are not to be outdone when it comes to blue. Buyers found slate blue to pale gray dining rooms to be more desirable. Homes with these colors in the dining room sold for an average of nearly $2,000 more than expected.

Exterior

Tan and beige is out. Greige is the "it" color for outside. In Zillow's analysis, it was found that homes with a greige (a mix of light gray and beige) exterior sold for almost $3500 more than expected. Curb appeal cannot be understated.

What about the front door? This fixture is the welcome to a home, inviting guests in and setting the mood of what they will find when they enter. It's important that the color of the front door is attractive and sets a person at ease. So what did Zillow find about the front door in their analysis?

No surprise here: Blue.

Specifically, navy blue. Homes with doors from dark navy blue to slate gray sold for $1514 more than expected.

The Living Room

So why not just paint the whole house blue and get it over with?

Not so fast.

It turns out we still like soft colors on the brown spectrum -- in the living room, anyway.

Zillow found that homes with light beige, pale taupe, or oatmeal-colored living walls sold for almost $2,000 more than expected.
